PEC will help improve economy and give Pakistan
a strategic advantage: President Arif Alvi

The newly elected President of Pakistan, Arif Alvi, stressed
on the economic benefi ts of the China-Pakistan Economic
Corridor (CPEC), saying that with the completion of the
project, Pakistan will have a reasonable economic advantage
in the region. He further stressed that the Pakistan Tehreeke-
Insaf (PTI) government is fully focused on the timely
implementation of CPEC. He made these remarks while
addressing a joint parliament session. He further urged the
parliamentarians to play a n active role in donations for the
construction of dams in the country.

Chinese Ambassador congratulates Malik
Amin Aslam for launching the 10 billion tree
programme

The Ambassador of China to Pakistan, H.E. Yao Jing, held a
meeting with Prime Minister’s Adviser on Climate Change,
Malik Amin Aslam, and lauded his efforts to preserve
the country’s environment. He appreciated the role the
Ministry of Climate Change has played in launching the 10
billion tree programme, and assured the minister that the
Chinese government will collaborate with Pakistan in efforts
to preserve the environment, which can be another key
cooperation initiative under the China-Pakistan Economic
Corridor (CPEC).

Pakistan and China to conduct intelligence
based joint operations to counter drug
trafficking

Pakistan and China have been exploring various areas of
mutual cooperation, especially since the advent of the China-
Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). A delegation of China’s
National Narcotics Control Committee (NNCC), called on the
headquarters of the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), to discuss
various areas of bilateral cooperation. It was decided that
both the countries will establish mechanisms to conduct
joint intelligence operations to counter the menace of drug
trafficking. Considering CPEC is expanding at a rapid pace,
it is important to establish policies that cater to this issue.

Afghanistan may agree to join CPEC: Minister for
Religious Affairs

Highlighting the importance of Afghanistan’s strategic
location, the Federal Minister for Religious Aff airs and
Interfaith Harmony, Noor-ul-Haq Qadri said that he had
invited Afghanistan to become part of the China-Pakistan
Economic Corridor (CPEC), which would help aid the
economy of the war-torn country. He said that after the
inclusion of Afghanistan in CPEC, it will give Pakistan access
to Europe through a serious of railway infrastructure
projects in Afghanistan.

Chinese industrialists increase investment in
Sindh under CPEC

Zhang Yang, representative of China’s Chongqing Federation
of Industry and Commerce, during a press conference at
Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HCCI) said
that an investment of $400 million will be made in Sindh,
particularly in industrial sector. The MOU in regards to this
was signed under the umbrella of CPEC in May this year,
which is to last for 5 years. The initative expanded upon
one of the 5 components of CPEC, industrial cooperation,
further enhancing the scope of CPEC in Pakistan. The MOUs
are inclusive of investment in industries like clothing, steel,
real estate, education, tourism etc.

Saudi partnership in CPEC a major boost for
‘cash-strapped’ Pakistan

The Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and
Industry (FPCCI) has expressed hope and encouragement
on the recent inclusion of Saudi Arabia as part of the multi-
billion dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Members of FPCCI have said that Pakistan’s crippling foreign
exchange reserves will be given a serious boost, since the country
is suffering from a major economic crisis. They also said that
through CPEC, Saudi Arabia will gain better access to
worl trade traffic.
